The head of M-Pesa Ronald Webb has exited Safaricom after just an year at the job.
Mr. Webb he company’s director of financial services had been poached from Equity Bank and is leaving at a seemingly critical juncture when the Safaricom firm is undertaking a major upgrade of the mobile money platform.
The CEO of the telco, Bob Collymore, Safaricom’s, on Monday informed his employees through a memo of Mr Webb’s imminent departure, saying he was moving back to the United Kingdom “for family reasons.”
“I wish him all the best as he returns following 18 productive years in Kenya,” Mr Collymore said in a staff memo.
“In the meantime, I would like to ask that we all give our usual support to Brian Wamatu, who will be standing in as interim director, financial services.”
Mr Webb was the co-founder and chief architect of the Paynet and PesaPoint payment platforms in Zimbabwe and Kenya before joining Equity bank.
